I can’t say that I’ve ever taken a liking to lifestyle accessories. I remember a discussion back in my Buyer Behavior class about how society has adapted to technology. A poll was brought up: when you wish to know what time it is, where do you look? As you can imagine, in a class of university students, an overwhelming majority stated they usually look to their mobile phone.
Unlike traditional times, watches tend to be more of an accessory in today’s society than a necessity. We now have access to the “current time of the day” more than ever before. We can view the time on the dash in our automobiles, glance at bottom right corner of our screens or top right if you an Apple user. The next time you are around some friends or coworkers–simply ask them what time it is. There is a high chance that most people will opt for…their mobile phones.
Introduction to the LunaTik
A product from the recent startup Minimal (Scott Wilson) called LunaTik aims to bring the multi-touch capabilities of the 6th generation iPod nano together with a watch kit to create a sleek and modern “multi-touch watch.” The TikTok + LunaTik (two unique watch kits) made history under the Kickstarter.com program as the most successful project funded. LunaTik + TikTok raised $941,718 with over 13,500 backers–a huge achievement when the original goal was $15,000. If you aren’t familiar with the project, please have a look at the short video below:
Shipment of the LunaTik
After first hearing about the project, I was very impressed. I tracked the progress of the project on and off and in early January placed a preorder for the LunaTik. Just a few days ago, I received an email stating that my LunaTik was on its way. I’m happy to say that my LunaTik has arrived and it did so in mere days. From China to Tampa, FL in just two days via UPS. These guys truly do love logistics!
First glance at the LunaTik + iPod Nano
Arriving in a small black padding envelope, the package weighed next to nothing. To my delight, the contents of the package were intact and had no damage.
Assembly of the LunaTik + iPod Nano
Assembly is very easy and takes just a few minutes.
A complete LunaTik + iPod Nano
The finished LunaTik watch is very lightweight and comfortable.
After thoughts about the LunaTik
The built quality is phenomenal and is on par with the quality that you expect from Apple. One minor issue: the watch strap has a strange odor but will go away very quickly.
Tips: you can rotate the screen by using two fingers and rotating to the left or right. To enable the clock on wake simply go to the settings –> Tap General –> Tap Date & Time –> Scroll down and Tap Time on Wake to On.
